Furious worship

Interviewing the Simon Harper Band at Creation Fest 2018
When you hear the word 'worship' what comes to mind? It depends who you are I suppose.

Do you think of a church service where people are singing traditional hymns accompanied by a pipe organ? A more contemporary setting where a group are singing choruses with guitars and tambourines? Gospel style choir singing, if you are a member of a charismatic or evangelical church perhaps? Hillsongs or Worship Central style maybe?

There are as many styles of worship as there are styles of music of course. But have you heard of furious worship? Well, that's exactly what I experienced when I heard the Simon Harper band live at Creation Fest 2018. I know, I know. It's my label for their approach to leading worship, but I think it's appropriate, because Simon and the lads know how to kick up a real storm as they abandon themselves to worshipping the living, vibrant and all-powerful God. Their music is loud, raucous and completely committed to playing and singing for an audience of one.

Simon is the worship pastor at Life Church in the Wirral, and currently heads up AoG Worship (the worship department for Assemblies of God in the United Kingdom. He also part of the aforementioned Worship Central UK Team. As a songwriter and worship leader, he is passionate about writing songs for the Church that connect people to God and this comes across very clearly in his presentation. His heart to lead people in worship and to build up strong worship teams has led him to speak and lead worship at various events and churches around the UK.

I caught up with Simon and his band outside the Big Top venue just a few minutes after they stepped off the stage, to grab a quick interview with them.  Listen and imagine - this is how worship could be in the future - playing to an audience of ONE.
